The Dynamic Island feature that Apple introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) is now also possible with Android devices. The third-party app “dynamicSpot” uses the notch on Android smartphones to imitate the iPhone 14 Pro’s pop-up notification effects. The app is available to download for free from the Play Store.
- The dynamicSpot app turns the notch of (almost) any Android device into a Dynamic Island.
- The app is free and has multitasking and music controls.
- Additional features and customization are available in the paid version.
This is how the dynamicSpot app works
It really didn’t take long before a developer made it his mission to bring the improvements of the iPhone line to Android devices. The dynamicSpot app, which is currently in the beta phase, turns the notch of (almost) every Android smartphone into an island-like notification and control center.
Download DynamicSpot from the Google Play Store
While the app offers users some customization options like resizing and advanced views, you have to purchase the full version of the app to get some of the additional features. This includes, among other things, the extension of the pop-up island to the lock screen and the setting of gesture control. However, the free version already has multitasking capabilities and supports timer and music control.
Limitations of the free app
More importantly, dynamicSpot only works with devices that have a centered notch. There’s no way to position the Dynamic Island on the sides or change the colors and theme as of yet — at least not for now.
The developer is an experienced member of the XDA forums. So far, the application is considered one of the few third-party apps in the Play Store that offer comparable functionality to Apple’s Dynamic Island. However, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if major manufacturers like Xiaomi or OnePlus introduce a similar pop-up notification for their devices in the future.
